'Hidden Wonders of Hong Kong: A Journey into Mushroom Diversity' Lecture The world of fungi presents a fascinating duality in nature. These organisms serve both as prized culinary delicacies and as nature’s most enigmatic decomposers. The rich aroma of matsutake mushrooms, the luxurious appeal of truffles, and the health benefits of Lingzhi mushrooms showcase fungi as true “forest treasures”. Yet, their ability to thrive in dark, damp environments gives them an air of mystery. In this special lecture, Dr Alvin Tang, Mycologist and Lecturer at CUHK School of Life Sciences, will guide us through Hong Kong’s most beautiful mushroom wonders. Through stunning visuals and engaging narration, you will discover the vibrant colors and extraordinary forms of our local mushrooms, revealing the most enchanting side of these “natural alchemists”. |

'The EarthBioGenome Project: Unlocking Nature’s Blueprint for biodiversity and sustainable futures' Lecture Understanding the biodiversity on Earth is more than just a scientific interest, as it can also inform how to maximise the utilisation of its resources in a sustainable way. The EarthBioGenome Project, which has been described as a moonshot project for biology, aims to sequence, catalogue, and analyze the genomes of all eukaryotes on Earth, including animals, fungi, and plants. The benefits of revealing the genomes of all animals, fungi, and plants in different parts in the world will form an informative base to solve many current issues in the human society. Such benefits could range from increasing understanding of how biodiversity evolves under climate change, to the conservation of endangered species, the provision of ecosystem services, and the discovery of hidden biological knowledge for new technological inventions and development. In this special lecture, Professor Jerome Hui at CUHK School of Life Sciences, will introduce what they have achieved and are now doing for the EarthBioGenome Project Hong Kong. |

Leave No Trace Educational Exhibition — Mountains Whisper We cherish the gifts of nature. Yet, we cannot take its beauty and benefits for granted. The mountains silently endure scars from fires, disappearing grasslands, eroded trails, and plastic remnants. Though they may protest without words, their calls often go unnoticed. In this exhibition, the MoCC will collaborate with The Green Earth to invite every nature lover to listen to the whispers of the mountains and forests, and take small yet meaningful steps to preserve their purity and vitality. Through learning and exploration, visitors can embrace the principles of respectful and sustainable outdoor practices. By doing so, we ensure that the lush landscapes remain vibrant—not just for ourselves, but for generations to come. |
