Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change

The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was established in December 2013 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). It is the first museum of its kind in the world, offering an interactive, multimedia exhibition that showcases valuable collections and information about climate change. It is the ideal venue for the public, especially students and teachers, to champion the cause of environmental stewardship and keep themselves abreast of the latest developments on environmental conservation and sustainability. Extended activities of the museum exhibition include an eco-tour of the prime ecological sites and green facilities on CUHK campus, and a variety of workshops and activities that promote green living.

Vision

The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change strives to become a recognized, valued contributor to positive changes in knowledge, attitudes and behaviour in relation to climate change throughout Hong Kong and beyond.

Mission

  • To reach out to and inform more people in Hong Kong and elsewhere about the latest developments in climate change issues
  • Through a host of initiatives and projects, to encourage and enable Hong Kong people of all ages and from all walks of life to get involved in carbon-reducing action and living a green lifestyle

Climate Hope & Action for SDG Empowerment

The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change launched ‘Climate Hope & Action for SDG Empowerment’ (CHASE) in 2020. ‘CHASE’ aims to communicate climate hope by means of museum exhibitions and other educational initiatives, encourage climate action and SDG understanding within the community through ‘SDG Community Action’, and nurture future sustainability leaders through the MoCC Ambassadorship (for CUHK students) and the SDG Ambassadorship (for secondary school students).

ClimateAction

JC–CUHK Climate Action

In 2017, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust further pledged its support for a three-year initiative of the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change: ‘JC–CUHK Climate Action’. The Museum will run a variety of environmental education activities, including environment fairs, eco-tours, and sustainability workshops and talks, to help the people of Hong Kong to better understand the potentially devastating effects of climate change and to suggest innovative solutions and engage themselves in action. It will also recruit student ambassadors and train young green leaders to advocate for climate action in Hong Kong.

CUHK Jockey Club Initiative Gaia

The Chinese University of Hong Kong launched the five-year ‘CUHK Jockey Club Initiative Gaia’ (Gaia) in 2012 with a generous donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Gaia’s aim is to promote environmental conservation, carbon reduction and sustainability in local communities through the establishment of a climate change museum, public education and engagement, and partnerships with schools and non-governmental organizations.
