To celebrate the 4th Anniversary of the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, we are proud to announce a change to the Museum’s logo as part of our ongoing evolution. The new logo incorporates the first letter ‘M’ of the Museum and carries the following symbolic meanings:
• The letter ‘M’ is the identity of the Museum — a prominent physical place where the various collections are kept and where the education begins;
• The logo also resembles a house, and symbolizes our home, the planet Earth; and
• The blue and white colours signify the ocean and ice of the Polar regions, and draw attention to the problem of climate change.
Extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common in recent years, giving a clear warning of the dangers of climate change. In this issue of Oceans and Sky, Professor Emily Chan and Professor Lin Liu share their views on climate change and its associated problems. One article deals with its effect on permafrost, and the other with its effects on how we humans live. Read both articles and experience the enthusiasm and optimism of two scholars faced with the urgent reality of climate change.
‘Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference’, said British prime minister Sir Winston Churchill (1874–1965). We hope that you will find Oceans and Sky inspiring, and will share our determination to proactively combat climate change and craft a greener future. This is the vision of ‘JC–CUHK Climate Action’.
With best wishes for a green and lively 2018.
